Inpatient Treatment Centers
If you or someone you know is suffering from the disease of addiction you may be considering some sort of treatment. Depending on the individual circumstances an inpatient arrangement may be the safest and most effective route. Inpatient treatment centers are ideal for individuals suffering from chemical dependence, self-harming behaviors, eating disorders and other mental disorders. Some facilities are for the chemically dependent only while others are able to accommodate a wide range of patient types.
When a chemically dependent individual is checked into an inpatient facility it is because they have done it voluntarily, a family member has gone to the judicial system and had them forcibly committed, their physician has ordered them to attend or the criminal court system has ordered them to attend. This means some patients want to be in treatment and some may not. Any expert will tell you that although every addict has the potential to get help the ones who want the help are the ones most likely to succeed. These treatment centers understand the chemically dependent as they are staffed by highly trained physicians and clinicians who specialize in this issue.
The first thing that will happen in an inpatient facility is an evaluation. The patient will be examined both physically and mentally. Blood tests and other tests may be performed. The goal is to assess the current level of dependency and develop the safest and most effective detoxification plan. Some substances can be stopped abruptly while others must be carefully tapered. This is something the staff will know how to handle. After the detoxification phase is complete the patient will be integrated into daily life at the treatment center.
Inpatient treatment centers help chemically dependent individuals by not only helping them detox safely but teaching them to remain clean and sober. Part of the treatment is teaching the addict how to function in everyday life without drugs or alcohol. This may involve giving the patient household chores like cleaning their rooms or sharing household duties with other patients. The patient will also be included in both individual and group therapy. The individual procedures and policies vary widely from facility to facility so do plenty of investigating before choosing a treatment center.
